Youth Leader Beheaded, Aide Shot Dead in Cult-Related Attack
The president of the Omoku Youth Federation, Comrade Ifeanyi Azuazu, and his aide, Chigozie Oluwu, were killed in a violent attack at a popular bar along Ogolo Street, off Palace Road, Omoku, in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State on Thursday evening, February 5.
According to eyewitnesses, a group of around seven gunmen, suspected to be cultists, drove into the bar in two vehicles. Upon spotting Azuazu, they ordered him into one of the waiting cars. When Oluwu attempted to intervene, he was shot at close range and died instantly.
The attack caused panic among residents and passersby, with nearby businesses closing abruptly as people sought safety.
The following afternoon, February 6, the Rivers State Police Command, together with the ONELGA Security and Planning Advisory Committee (OSPAC), recovered Azuazu’s headless body in a forest in Omoku.
CSP Grace Iringe Koko, the state police spokesperson, confirmed the killings and said the incident is linked to cult activities. Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju has ordered a full-scale investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible.
