“You’ll Be Punished for Suing the Party” — Bode George Warns Sule Lamido
A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Chief Bode George, has cautioned former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, against taking legal action over his inability to purchase the party’s National Chairmanship nomination form.
Lamido had threatened to sue the PDP after he was unable to obtain the form when the official in charge was reportedly unavailable at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, George insisted that the PDP had never barred any member from contesting for party positions, urging Lamido to follow due process rather than resorting to litigation.
“You want to make the process seamless and non-combative. We’ve done this before, and the party has never told anyone they cannot contest,” George said. “Governor Sule Lamido has the right to compete. He can get the form, fill it, and appear on the convention day. We will vote—that is the practice in our party.”
He, however, warned that Lamido risked sanctions if he went ahead to sue the PDP without first exhausting its internal conflict resolution channels.
“This party is not owned by any individual. Before taking the party to court, you must exhaust the internal dynamics of the party. If you fail to do that, you can be punished,” George stated.
Reaffirming the PDP’s commitment to transparency, he added that all aspirants would be allowed to contest and that delegates would make the final decision during the convention.
“The final decision will be by delegates attending the convention, and it will be done openly,” he concluded.
