“You Will Lose 2027 Election Like Jonathan If…” Northern Elder Warns Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been cautioned by Northern elder and public affairs analyst, Alhaji Dabo Sambo, to urgently address the escalating insecurity and banditry gripping northern Nigeria or risk facing electoral defeat in 2027.

In a media briefing, Sambo emphasized that insecurity remains Nigeria’s most critical challenge, with lives and property increasingly endangered. He stressed that the federal government’s failure to ensure the safety of its citizens could lead to serious political consequences for Tinubu, similar to what befell former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.

“If President Tinubu refuses to wipe out the security challenges, he will definitely not win the 2027 election,” Sambo said. Drawing a parallel with Jonathan’s loss, he attributed it to the government’s inability to tackle widespread insecurity at the time.

He argued that the electorate has grown weary of token campaign gestures. “The era of carton noodles and salt distribution during campaigns is over,” he said. “People want security and food. Without these, they will not vote.”

Sambo highlighted the dire situation in the North-West and North-East, regions he said are responsible for producing more than 60% of Nigeria’s food. He noted that terrorist activity has driven farmers from their land, severely impacting agricultural output, raising food prices, and contributing to hunger across the country.

“Food is scarce in Nigeria and people are hungry,” he said, linking the growing food crisis directly to unchecked insecurity. He also underscored the broader economic fallout, including the depreciation of the naira, rising transport costs, and inflation, which he said are eroding the savings and purchasing power of ordinary Nigerians.

Sambo urged Tinubu to make visible progress in security within the next six months and to begin reviving local agriculture within a year. Failure to act decisively, he warned, could see Tinubu suffer the same political fate as Jonathan in the next general election.
