“You Want to Wreck Our Party, Cripple Opposition Politics” — PDP Northern Elders Accuse Wike

The Northern Elders Unity Forum of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his political allies of plotting to destabilize the party and weaken opposition politics in Nigeria.

In a communiqué issued after its 18th General Meeting, the Forum reaffirmed its confidence in the leadership of the PDP Acting National Chairman, Iliya Umar Damagum, and condemned what it described as desperate attempts by some party members to derail the forthcoming National Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The Forum’s National Secretary, Abbas Sadauki, said members were united in their resolve to defend the party’s unity, declaring that no amount of political intimidation, blackmail, or misinformation would prevent the successful organization of the convention. He alleged that some members of the National Working Committee were colluding with external political forces to destabilize the PDP from within.

“Those misleading groups within the party to scuttle the convention are mere jokers — predators unleashed against the collective interest. Their unholy alliance with enemies of progress will soon end in political shame and regret,” Sadauki stated.

According to the Forum, the internal crisis within the PDP is being fueled by Wike’s political influence and ambitions. It commended Ambassador Damagum and other loyal stakeholders for their commitment to steering the party toward unity and revival ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The elders also cautioned the judiciary and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against alleged attempts by certain political actors to manipulate national institutions to undermine democracy.

Reaffirming its full loyalty to the PDP leadership, the Forum insisted that the decision of the National Executive Committee to proceed with the convention remains binding and must be respected by all members.
