Yobe Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Abducting and Impregnating 20-Year-Old Woman
The Yobe State Police Command has arrested Mallam Auwalu Haruna, a self-proclaimed marabout, on charges of abducting and impregnating a 20-year-old woman.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, revealed that between January and June 2024, the police registered 34 cases of gender-based violence (GBV) and related crimes. Of these cases, 85% are currently in trial, with a few convictions already secured.
The latest case emerged when the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters received a complaint from Alhaji Mohammed Kellu on June 6, 2024, reporting that his daughter had been abducted by Mallam Auwalu Haruna.
A comprehensive search led to the discovery of the victim in Haruna’s custody in Anguwan Arewa, Gaya LGA, Kano State. A medical examination confirmed that the woman was two months pregnant.
The victim reported that she had been forced to consume a medicinal concoction, which caused her to lose consciousness and left her vulnerable to Haruna’s actions.
DSP Abdulkarim added that the State CID has initiated a detailed investigation into the incident.
