“Yakubu Has No Shame” – Lawyer Blasts INEC Chair for Praising Ghana’s Election

Human rights lawyer and counsel for the Indigenous People of Biafra, Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has fiercely criticized the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, for commending Ghana’s recently concluded elections. Ejiofor argued that Yakubu has no moral standing to applaud Ghana’s credible electoral process, given the controversies surrounding Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election.

In a press statement issued on Monday, Ejiofor condemned Yakubu’s remarks, stating, “I watched in utter disbelief as Nigeria’s own Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of INEC, lavished praise on his Ghanaian counterpart for conducting a credible election that saw an opposition leader emerge victorious as President-elect.”

The lawyer highlighted that Yakubu presided over a Nigerian election widely criticized for irregularities and allegations of rigging in favor of the ruling party. Contrasting it with Ghana’s transparent process, Ejiofor said, “In Ghana, the people’s votes were respected and counted, a stark contrast to the Nigerian experience. Nigerians are still waiting for Prof. Yakubu to explain the so-called ‘glitch’ in INEC’s server that enabled the blatant subversion of the people’s will.”

Ejiofor described the Nigerian electoral process as a betrayal of democracy, arguing that its flaws have left millions impoverished and disillusioned. He praised Ghana as a beacon of democratic integrity and called for justice and accountability in Nigeria.

“The soul of Nigeria demands justice, and history will not be kind to those who betrayed her,” he concluded, urging Yakubu to reflect on the damage caused under his leadership.
