Woman Who Tore Husband’s Passport at Lagos Airport Defends Her Actions, Says She Had Her Reasons

The woman at the center of a dramatic incident at Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, where she tore her husband’s passport, has spoken out, stating that she had valid reasons for her actions.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday as the couple and their three children returned from a European country, quickly went viral on social media, sparking widespread debate. While the identities of the couple have not been officially disclosed, they are believed to be from Edo State.

In response to the controversy, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) confirmed that it is investigating the matter and has summoned the woman involved.

Speaking in an interview with @JejojaFamily TV, the woman explained that the issues with her husband had been ongoing for years. She admitted that she considered tearing the passport while still in Europe but decided to wait until they were back in Nigeria to avoid causing her husband additional stress.

“These issues have been going on for a very long time. I was just dancing to the tune till I arrived in my motherland, Nigeria, where it just happened, and I did what I did,” she said.

She urged those criticizing her to consider the circumstances that led to her actions. “I am not a mad woman who would just come and act like that. I have my reasons. I have gone through so many things,” she explained, adding that many people had reached out to her, including those who had not contacted her in years.

Addressing those who suggested she should be arrested, the woman expressed her frustration and pain, highlighting the challenges she has faced within her marriage. She pointed out that her husband had been controlling her social media accounts and implied that she had endured significant hardship over the years.

“I suffered with this my husband. I know how many years I suffered with him, and just like that, they want my suffering to be disregarded. Where is it done?” she questioned.

The woman concluded by challenging her husband to speak publicly about the situation if he had the courage to do so, stating that she only wanted to reap the rewards of the sacrifices she had made in the marriage.
