Woman Charged with Cyber-Farting After Sending Fart Videos to Boyfriend’s Ex, Found Guilty and Fined
A woman has been fined and ordered to attend rehabilitation sessions after sending a series of videos of herself farting to her boyfriend’s ex-partner, an act the court described as malicious and distressing.
Rhiannon Evans, 25, was brought before Caernarfon Magistrates’ Court after Deborah Prytherch reported receiving multiple videos of Evans deliberately passing gas while smirking at the camera. The incidents took place between December 22 and New Year’s Day, with Evans sending a total of seven videos.
Prosecutor Diane Williams detailed how Evans recorded herself “placing the camera on her bottom and passing gas” before sending the clips to Prytherch, who said they caused her significant anxiety and distress.
Evans later admitted to the offence, claiming she had been drinking at the time and had acted out of frustration over a dispute between her partner and his ex regarding child contact. Her defense lawyer, Harriet Gorst, argued that Evans did not intend to cause harm but now understands the impact of her actions. However, Williams insisted that Evans’ behavior was entirely malicious, emphasizing that she “found it hilarious, but the victim didn’t.”
The court ordered Evans to pay nearly £300, including £100 in compensation to Prytherch and £199 in court costs. She was also given a two-year restraining order preventing her from contacting her victim. Additionally, she must complete 15 rehabilitation sessions and abstain from alcohol for two months.
In a statement to the court, Prytherch said she wanted to “feel safe in my home” following the harassment.
