Woman Arrested for Posting Photo on WhatsApp Brandishing Gun, Threatening Men Who Dump Her
A Kenyan woman, Sharon Auma, was arrested in Awasi, Kisumu County, after posting a photo on WhatsApp in which she brandished a Canik pistol and threatened any man who attempted to break up with her. The alarming post prompted swift action from detectives with the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nyando.
Auma, along with her friend Nancy Atieno Obura, was taken into custody for illegal possession of a firearm. Police reported that Sharon Auma had posted the photo to her WhatsApp status, warning men who might end their relationships with her that they would face serious consequences. Authorities acted quickly after receiving reports of the threatening post and apprehended Auma in Awasi town.
During questioning, Sharon disclosed that the firearm was kept at a rented house belonging to her friend, Nancy Atieno Obura. A search of the property revealed the weapon concealed in clothing, hidden under a basin beneath a bed, along with an empty magazine. Authorities also recovered a fake motorcycle number plate, KMGG 805M, during the search.
Both women are in custody, facing charges related to the illegal possession of the firearm, and are expected to be arraigned soon. Investigations are ongoing, with law enforcement officials seeking to identify and apprehend additional individuals connected to the weapon.
