Woman Arraigned in Court for Allegedly Marrying Two Husbands Same Time
A woman identified as Harira Muhammad of Tudun Murtala has been arraigned before an Upper Shari’a Court in the Post Office area of Kano Municipality for allegedly marrying two husbands simultaneously.
According to court proceedings, Harira had been married to her first husband, Sagiru Shuaibu of Tudun Murtala, for six months, although the couple had been living separately. The situation came to light when Sagiru visited her residence and allegedly found another man on their matrimonial bed. He raised an alarm, drawing the attention of neighbours.
When questioned in court, Harira initially denied being married to Sagiru. However, upon being asked by the judge to swear an oath on the Qur’an, she admitted to the marriage.
The second man, Bello Abdullahi of Yankaba, told the court that he legally married Harira after her uncle, Abdullahi Umar, accepted a dowry payment of N100,000 on her behalf.
Presiding over the case, Judge Khadi Munzali Tanko Soron-Dinki ordered further police investigation and directed that both Harira and her second husband be remanded in a custodial facility until May 16.
