Winners Emerge in Obosi Dialect Quiz Sponsored by Engr. Eric Anyamene
Uruowulu Village has emerged winner of the Inter-Village Obosi Dialect Quiz Competition, a cultural event that brought together participants from different parts of the community to promote the use and understanding of the Obosi dialect.
The competition was sponsored by Engr. Eric Nnamdi Anyamene, founder of the Eric Nnamdi Anyamene Foundation (ENAF), and drew strong participation from villages across Obosi. It combined elements of language, history, and local knowledge, with a focus on encouraging younger generations to engage more actively with their cultural roots.
At the end of the contest, Uruowulu Village secured first place and received a cash prize of ₦250,000. Mmakwum Village came second with ₦150,000, while Ire Village placed third and went home with ₦100,000. Ugamuma and Umuota villages finished in fourth and fifth positions respectively.
Speaking after the event, ENAF Coordinator, Hon. Mrs. Hope Nche Ejindu-Egwu, said the initiative was designed to go beyond competition. She explained that the goal is to preserve the Obosi dialect, strengthen cultural identity, and create opportunities for young people to connect with their heritage in a meaningful way.
She added that language remains a key part of identity and that efforts like the quiz help address the gradual decline in the use of indigenous languages. According to her, engaging youths through structured cultural activities is one way to sustain interest and build continuity.
The event attracted community leaders, parents, and residents, many of whom commended the initiative and the level of participation from the competing villages.
Organisers say the success of this year’s edition has reinforced the need for continued investment in cultural programmes that support language preservation and community engagement.
