“Wike’s Dual Loyalty is Shameless, a Dangerous Precedent in Politics” – Governor Bala
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has strongly criticized the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, accusing him of displaying “shameless” dual loyalty, which he says sets a dangerous precedent in Nigerian politics.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, Governor Mohammed responded to Wike’s recent media remarks criticizing his stance against President Bola Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills. Mohammed, who also chairs the PDP Governors Forum, described Wike as an inconsistent politician whose shifting allegiances undermine the political system.
He remarked that Wike’s rise in politics was made possible by the PDP, yet he now actively works against the party that nurtured his career. “Chief Wike’s ascendancy in politics is a testament to the opportunities provided by the PDP, yet he now gleefully undermines the very foundation that nurtured him,” Mohammed stated. “It is disheartening that a man who owes so much to a party that stood by him has chosen to be a willing tool in its denigration.”
Contrasting Wike’s approach with his own, the governor said, “Unlike Wike, who thrives on drama and divisiveness, Sen. Bala Mohammed has always understood that politics is not a game of self-serving theatrics but a platform to serve the public good.” He accused Wike of being opportunistic and unreliable, alienating even those who once supported him.
Governor Mohammed also dismissed Wike’s comments on the Tax Reform Bills as “baseless” and “hypocritical,” pointing out that while Wike once branded himself a PDP stalwart, he now openly backs the APC government and even advocates for its re-election in 2027 while still claiming PDP membership. Mohammed questioned Wike’s credibility, calling his actions a “chameleonic” display of political opportunism.
He further asserted that Nigerians are not deceived by Wike’s shifting loyalties, saying, “They see a man willing to undermine his party for personal gain, a man whose loyalty shifts as quickly as his alliances.” In contrast, he argued that his opposition to the Tax Reform Bills was rooted in a commitment to inclusive governance and accountability, which had already led to significant adjustments in the reform process.
Governor Mohammed concluded by warning that Wike’s political behavior threatens the moral integrity of Nigerian democracy. “His shameless oscillation between PDP and APC undermines the moral fabric of democracy,” he said. “Politics must be guided by principles, not by personal whims. Wike’s behaviour, reminiscent of George Orwell’s Animal Farm, exemplifies the kind of amoral politics that erodes public trust and damages national unity.”
