Wike Says FG Playing Double Standards With Relocation of Almajiris

Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike has accused the Federal Government of playing double standards with the issue of relocation of Almajiris in the country amidst coronavirus pandemic.

Wike who spoke when he played host to traditional rulers in the state at the government house, Port Harcourt on Tuesday said the federal government did not condemn relocation of Almajiris by some states but only found its voice when Rivers state relocated them.

“When they started relocating the almajiri in the North, the Federal Government said nothing. Immediately they heard that we have relocated some almajiri, they came up with the declaration that it is against the inter-state movement. Why this double standard?”, Wike queried.

The Governor explained that the shutdown in the state was to curb the spread of the disease. He tasked traditional rulers to set up task force in their respective domains to enforce the closure of markets, hotels and beer parlours across the state.
