“Nobody Will Call Me or Give Me Instructions” — Wike Vows to Block Fubara’s 2027 Re-election

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said no individual or authority will stop him from opposing the re-election of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, ahead of the 2027 general election.

Wike spoke on Sunday during a visit to Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he accused the governor of breaching political agreements on two occasions and warned that he would not repeat what he described as the mistake of 2023.

“I heard people saying they will call me and give me instructions,” Wike said. “Let me tell you, there is nothing like instruction as far as Rivers State is concerned. Nobody will call me.”

He said previous attempts at reconciliation failed due to repeated breaches of agreement. “You had the first agreement, somebody reneged. The second agreement, he reneged. Which call will you accept again? We will not make that mistake again,” he added.

Wike stressed that his position was not driven by personal interest, noting that his current role at the federal level does not depend on Rivers politics. “It has nothing to do with me as a person. As Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, I am very comfortable,” he said.

According to him, his concern is about the political standing of Rivers State. “When I was governor, Rivers State was respected nationally. When I spoke, you knew Rivers State was in charge,” Wike said.

He also recalled challenging the federal government during his tenure as governor. “When I was governor, we challenged the Federal Government and we won,” he stated.

Wike questioned the recent surge in support of Tinubu, suggesting they only surfaced after political opposition weakened. “Now that the opposition has collapsed, everybody is shouting on your mandate. Why didn’t you shout on your mandate before?” he asked.
