Wike Issues Stern Warning to Employers in Abuja Regarding Tax Compliance

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has issued a fresh warning to employers in the nation’s capital, Abuja, emphasizing the importance of tax compliance.

Mustapha Sumaila, the Head of Corporate Communications at the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS), revealed this caution in an official statement released on Sunday. The minister stressed that all employers operating in Abuja must submit their 2023 annual returns on or before January 31, 2024.

This directive aligns with Section 41 of the Personal Income Tax Act (PITA) 2011, as amended. Sumaila further highlighted the specific sections, namely 94, 95, and 96 of PITA, which outline penalties for non-filing, incorrect/false declaration, and late submission. The FCT-IRS is resolute in its commitment to enforcing these laws and will not hesitate to penalize defaulters.

Sumaila urged employers of labor, organizations, and agents to proactively comply with the deadline, emphasizing that late filers and non-filers will face penalties in accordance with the law. As the January 31 deadline approaches, the FCT-IRS remains steadfast in ensuring tax compliance within the Abuja business community.
