“Wike Discovered Me” — Siminalayi Fubara Dedicates Award to Nyesom Wike

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dedicated his Man of the Year award to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, declaring that the minister played a defining role in his political journey.

Fubara made the remarks on Friday night while receiving the honour at the New Telegraph Award/Dinner Night organised by New Telegraph in Lagos.

Speaking at the event, the governor reflected on the political tensions that have shaped governance in Rivers State since he assumed office, noting that what some critics described as weakness was a deliberate decision aimed at preserving peace and ensuring stability.

He said choosing to appear weak at certain moments was necessary for survival and for protecting interests beyond personal ambition, adding that “weakness is a virtue” that yields results at the appropriate time.

Fubara also appreciated the people of Rivers State and his family for what he described as their patience and maturity during months of uncertainty that followed the political rift in the state.

In a statement likely to spark further political discussions, the governor publicly dedicated the award to Wike, his predecessor and long-time political ally. He stated that Wike discovered him and provided the platform that amplified his political voice, stressing that he was unconcerned about how the gesture might be interpreted.

The development marks another public sign of easing tensions between both leaders after months of political confrontation that led to divisions within the Rivers State House of Assembly and threats of impeachment.

Recent reconciliation efforts have reportedly followed the intervention of President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa. Observers say the governor’s latest remarks signal continued moves toward political stabilisation in Rivers State.
