Why We Killed Missing Ogun FRSC Officer and Her Daughter — Suspects
Suspects arrested in connection with the killing of Federal Road Safety Corps officer Lasisi Funmilayo and her daughter, Sewa, have told police investigators why they carried out the crime, revealing a plot driven by alleged spiritual manipulation and instructions from a cleric.
Victor Fajemirokun, identified as Funmilayo’s boyfriend, was paraded in Osogbo alongside two herbalists, Gboyega Daramola and Sunday James. He admitted luring the 39-year-old officer and her daughter from Ogun State to Ijebu-Jesa in Osun State, claiming an Islamic cleric had warned him that Funmilayo had “used his glory.”
According to Fajemirokun, “The cleric told me that as long as Funmilayo was alive, I would never be successful. He said she had taken my glory through spiritual manipulations. That was why I agreed to take her for cleansing.”
Funmilayo and her daughter had been declared missing on the morning of November 2 after leaving their home in the Obasanjo Hilltop Estate area of Abeokuta. Their disappearance sparked concern, which intensified when police discovered their bodies with missing organs at a suspected ritual site in Osun.
Fajemirokun told journalists he arranged the trip under the guise of seeking spiritual help. “The agreement between me and Funmilayo was to go and meet Gboyega for spiritual cleansing,” he said. “When he consulted, he told me Funmilayo was the one causing misfortune for me and asked me to come with her.”
He recounted accompanying the victims to a bush where the supposed ritual was to take place. “It was in the bush that we killed her. The daughter went with us. After killing them, I ran to a mountain in Ikoyi. It was as if I was hypnotised. I never really wanted to do that. I didn’t know they harvested their organs until I heard it on the news.”
One of the herbalists, Sunday James, confirmed his role in the attack and described how he encountered the victims. “I went to my boss’s house, where I met Victor, a woman and a young girl,” he said. “My boss told me Victor had been told by an alfa that his woman friend had used his glory. He said they were there for them to kill his wife and child.”
James claimed he acted under threat. “My boss ordered me to kill them. We took them to a bush where we used a knife to slit their throats. After that, we cut the woman into pieces.”
Daramola, the herbalist alleged to have ordered the killings, denied instructing anyone to murder the victims. He insisted it was Fajemirokun who brought them for ritual purposes and said he was not present when the killings occurred.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan explained that the investigation began after Fajemirokun was also reported missing in Ikoyi, where he claimed he had gone for prayers. “Through intelligence-led investigation, Gboyega Daramola was arrested on November 16,” Gotan said. “He confessed that Fajemirokun brought a woman and her daughter for money rituals and that they had been killed.”
Daramola later led detectives to Esa-Odo Dam, where Funmilayo’s body was found with her head, breast, hands, private parts and other organs missing. The remains were deposited at the Uniosun Teaching Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Further intelligence led to the arrest of Sunday James in Ekiti State on November 20. During interrogation, he confessed to killing both victims and led officers to the bush where Sewa’s remains were recovered, also with organs missing.
Gotan said Fajemirokun fled after the incident, but collaboration with Interpol led to his arrest in Ghana and subsequent repatriation to Nigeria.
The commissioner assured the public that the suspects will be prosecuted and confirmed that efforts are underway to track additional accomplices still at large.
