Why There’s a Drop in Nigeria’s Power Supply – TCN

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) attributed the decline in nationwide power supply to constraints in gas availability for thermal generating companies. TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, highlighted that this situation has directly impacted the volume of bulk power accessible on the transmission grid for distribution across the country.

Mbah reassured the public that TCN is actively collaborating with power sector stakeholders to maintain grid stability despite the current challenges in power generation. She emphasized that the gradual reduction in available generation is a consequence of gas limitations faced by thermal plants, leading to a decrease in the amount of power transmitted to distribution load centers nationwide.

“TCN is committed to ensuring a progressive increase in electricity supply as gas availability improves for thermal plants. We ask for your understanding as we work closely with stakeholders to enhance the electricity supply chain,” stated the company.

Additionally, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company acknowledged the impact of these challenges on its franchise states (Delta, Edo, Ekiti, and Ondo). The company explained that the reduction in supply hours experienced in these states is a result of constraints beyond their control, specifically limitations in the national allocation of power.
