“Why Peter Obi Is Not a Strong Opposition for Tinubu” — Segun Sowunmi
Segun Sowunmi, a senior figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed doubts about former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s ability to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Thursday during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television, Sowunmi highlighted Obi’s challenges in rallying support across the Southeast.
He noted that the current crop of Southeastern governors has not been particularly inspirational. “Some of them are delivering on values and assignments,” he said. “If they are inspirational leaders, none of them can be easily overtaken. It’s not as simple as that.”
Sowunmi added that the movement Obi sought to build was intended to break the political glass ceiling for Southeastern leaders. However, he said internal divisions and unchecked anger within the movement undermined its momentum, leading to resistance from within the region.
