Why I Chose Weakness in My Battle Against Wike – Fubara

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has explained that his perceived “weakness” in dealing with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike was a conscious strategy aimed at preserving peace, ensuring survival, and protecting broader national interests.

Fubara made the remarks on Friday in Lagos while receiving a Man of the Year award at the New Telegraph Award/Dinner Night. He reflected on the pressures of leadership, political tensions, and the importance of reconciliation in Rivers State.

“Some see this approach as weakness, others as strength. I choose it deliberately—for peace, for survival, and to protect what is dear not only to me but to our nation,” Fubara said. “Weakness is a virtue. It pays at the right time.”

He thanked Rivers State residents and his family for their patience during months of uncertainty and also dedicated the award to Wike, acknowledging the minister’s role in his political journey.

“I also dedicate this award to the Honourable Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike. It was his discovery of me that gave me this platform,” he added.

The governor’s remarks follow ongoing reconciliation efforts, supported by President Bola Tinubu, to ease tensions between the two leaders. Their rivalry, which began after Fubara assumed office in May 2023, previously contributed to divisions within the Rivers State House of Assembly and prolonged governance uncertainty.
