What I Told Wike Before Removing FCT from TSA – Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has revealed that he held a private discussion with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, before deciding to remove the FCT Administration from the Treasury Single Account (TSA). The President shared this while receiving a delegation led by the FCT Minister at the Presidential Villa in Abuja during a Sallah homage.

Tinubu urged Nigerians to embrace discipline, unity, and strong family values that promote national cohesion. He commended Wike for his innovative leadership in the FCT and acknowledged the positive changes that have followed the administration’s exit from the TSA.

Recalling his conversation with Wike, Tinubu said the minister had approached him, requesting that the FCT be exempted from the TSA to enable more effective governance. The President recounted that he agreed to the request after reviewing Wike’s plans but also considered the political implications for his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Following the removal from the TSA, Tinubu noted significant improvements in the FCT, including the revival of previously abandoned projects, upgrades to healthcare facilities, and improvements in education. He praised Wike for his contributions, stating that security had improved, food prices were dropping, and overall economic conditions in the capital were becoming more favorable.

Tinubu also expressed appreciation to the delegation for their support and commitment to national unity. He highlighted Wike’s ability to work effectively in the northern part of the country despite hailing from the South, describing it as a testament to Nigeria’s diversity and potential for progress.

In his remarks, Wike reaffirmed the FCT Administration’s dedication to the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He credited Tinubu’s leadership for several key reforms, including the FCTA’s removal from the TSA, the creation of the FCT Civil Service Commission, and the establishment of new Mandate Secretariats for Women and Youths. These initiatives, he said, have strengthened governance and improved service delivery in the capital.

The minister also praised Tinubu for his personal involvement in FCT development projects, recalling his presence at multiple commissioning events during the administration’s first anniversary. Looking ahead, he expressed excitement for the upcoming second anniversary, promising more projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure, economic growth, and the overall well-being of FC YouT residents.
