“We’re Yet to Receive Certified True Copy of Judgment” – Senate on Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Ruling
The Senate has acknowledged the recent judgment by the Federal High Court in Abuja regarding Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan but stated it has not yet received the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the ruling. This was disclosed on Sunday by Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, in a statement issued in Abuja.
Adaramodu emphasized that the CTC is essential for the Senate to conduct a thorough review of the court’s pronouncements and determine the appropriate legal response. According to him, although the judgment was delivered on July 4, the full content was not read in open court, and legal representatives present confirmed this.
He noted that the Senate has formally applied for the CTC to ascertain whether any specific order was made nullifying Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension. Until then, he said, no party can act on or enforce any perceived order from the court, as the enrolled order of the judgment has not been officially served on any party involved.
Adaramodu added that on the advice of its legal team, the Senate would refrain from taking any action that could compromise its legal standing until it receives and reviews the certified judgment. He reaffirmed the Senate’s commitment to the rule of law and the Nigerian Constitution, assuring the public that due process will guide its actions moving forward.
