“We’re Not Attacking Iran’s Oil Facilities, It’s Israel” – US

The United States says it is not responsible for attacks on Iran’s oil facilities, attributing the strikes to Israel.

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said Washington would not target Iran’s energy infrastructure.

Speaking to CNN, Wright said disruptions to petroleum and gas supplies resulting from the attacks would likely be temporary.

According to him, any impact on supply would last only a short period, “a few weeks at most.”

Iran produces about four percent of the world’s oil, with a significant portion exported to China.

The situation has unfolded alongside political developments in Iran following the selection of Mojtaba Khamenei as successor to his father, the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Members of the clerical body responsible for choosing Iran’s top leader announced the decision on Sunday night and urged citizens to support the new leadership and maintain national unity.

In a statement carried by state media, the assembly said Mojtaba Khamenei was chosen through what it described as a “decisive vote.” It also called on elites and intellectuals from seminaries and universities to back the leadership during what it described as a critical moment for the country.

The development may further heighten tensions. US President Donald Trump had earlier identified Mojtaba Khamenei as the most likely successor and indicated he would not accept that outcome.

If confirmed, Mojtaba Khamenei’s emergence would mark the first time since the Iranian Revolution that Iran’s top leadership has passed from father to son.

The move could trigger debate within Iran about the rise of hereditary leadership in a political system created to end dynastic rule after the fall of the shah.
