Wedding Horror: Thai Para-Athlete’s Shooting Rampage Claims Lives of Bride, Others
Chaturong Suksuk, a decorated 29-year-old Thai para-athlete and ASEAN Para Games silver medallist, unleashed a deadly shooting spree at his own wedding reception in northeastern Thailand. The incident took place on Saturday, leaving the bride, Kanchana Pachunthuek, and four others dead before Chaturong turned the gun on himself.
According to Matichon Wongbaokul, a police officer from Nakhon Ratchasima province, the tragedy unfolded after an argument between the couple on private matters. Chaturong, in a sudden and shocking act, walked to his car, retrieved a firearm, and opened fire on his bride, her mother, and sister.
The indiscriminate shooting also claimed the life of a guest who was hit by a stray bullet. Chaturong’s achievements in para-athletics, specifically winning two silver medals in the 2022 ASEAN Para Games, stand in stark contrast to the violence that marred his wedding day.
Reports indicate that Chaturong, a Thai army ranger, had previously lost his right leg while on border patrol. The motive behind the tragic act remains unclear, but the incident highlights the broader issue of gun violence in Thailand, where firearms are readily available, both legally and illegally.
This shocking episode follows a recent mall assault, emphasizing the need for addressing the complex challenges associated with gun violence in the country. The community mourns the loss of lives in this devastating event that unfolded during what should have been a joyous celebration.
