“We Will Soon Name Nigerian Politicians Backing Bandits” — Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso
Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso say they are preparing to publish the names of senior Nigerian politicians accused of aiding bandit groups operating in the country’s North-West. Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that intelligence officials from the three countries confirmed they already possess the names of some politicians suspected of providing support to criminal gangs. The officials also revealed that arrests have been made among individuals allegedly involved in supplying arms to the bandits, with investigations ongoing.
The planned disclosure is part of wider regional efforts to dismantle cross-border criminal networks contributing to instability in West Africa. The move underscores the growing security cooperation among Sahelian states as they confront armed groups and the illicit arms trade that fuel violence across the region.
