“We Will Bring Osun, Oyo Into the Fold,” Says Ganduje After APC’s Ondo Victory
Following the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s landslide win in the Ondo State governorship election, the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has reaffirmed the APC’s ambition to take control of the entire Southwest region. Ganduje specifically targeted Osun and Oyo, the two states still governed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), vowing to bring them under APC’s influence.
“Our next target now is this geopolitical zone, the Southwest. You know we are good at hitting the target—that is Osun State and Oyo State. We assure you, we will do what is possible to bring them into the fold,” Ganduje declared while emphasizing the party’s determination to secure total dominance in the region.
The APC’s victory in Ondo was emphatic, with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa retaining his position after polling 366,781 votes to defeat Agboola Ajayi of the PDP, who garnered 117,845 votes. Aiyedatiwa, formerly the deputy governor, had assumed office after the death of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in December 2023.
With this win, the APC now governs four of the six Southwestern states—Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti, and Ondo—leaving Osun and Oyo as the PDP’s remaining strongholds.
