“We Want You to Come Back to PDP — That’s Where You Belong,” Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed Pleads with Peter Obi
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has publicly urged Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Speaking during Obi’s visit to the Bauchi Government House, Mohammed, who also chairs the PDP Governors Forum, emphasized the need for opposition unity to address Nigeria’s current challenges under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governor Mohammed praised Obi’s approach to politics, highlighting his focus on constructive engagement, people-centered governance, and oversight. He commended Obi’s achievements in healthcare and education during his tenure as Anambra State governor and noted the clarity of his vision for Nigeria’s future. “We need leadership that goes beyond seasonal politics and lip service,” Mohammed said, stressing that Nigerian politicians must show knowledge, empathy, and planning to solve the country’s problems.
The Bauchi governor further warned that disunity among opposition parties only benefits the ruling APC. He called on the PDP, Labour Party, and other opposition groups to harmonize their efforts for the sake of Nigeria’s progress. “We must come together to confront this Goliath and take Nigeria to the promised land with strategy and compassion,” he declared, making a heartfelt plea for Obi to rejoin the PDP. “That’s where you belong. Don’t go anywhere else,” he added.
Peter Obi responded by reaffirming the need for collaboration and a fundamental shift in Nigeria’s political culture. He described his visit as an opportunity to discuss solutions for the nation’s problems and urged opposition parties to work together for the country’s benefit. “Our politics must change. It must be the politics of development, competence, capacity, and compassion,” Obi said.
During his visit to Bauchi, Obi also donated a total of N15 million to two educational institutions: N10 million to Malkiya College of Nursing Sciences and N5 million to Intisharu Taufizul Quranic Islamic School. Speaking at the nursing college, Obi highlighted the critical role nurses play in healthcare, noting that he supports 60 to 70 nursing schools across Nigeria annually. At the Quranic school, he emphasized the importance of combining Islamic education with conventional subjects such as English and Mathematics to prepare children for success.
In addition, Obi addressed a forum of Students’ Union Government Presidents on the theme “Youth and Leadership Opportunity,” where he reiterated his commitment to serving only one four-year presidential term if elected. Describing this pledge as “sacrosanct,” he stressed that true leadership is defined by purposeful and accountable service, not longevity in office.
