“We Overran Marte Military Base, Killed Many Soldiers” – ISWAP Claims Responsibility for Attack in Borno
The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has claimed responsibility for a deadly assault on a Nigerian Army base in Marte, Borno State.
In a statement posted on its Telegram channel, the insurgent group said its fighters launched the attack in the early hours of Monday, engaging troops in an intense firefight that lasted about an hour. ISWAP claims it successfully overran the base, killing several soldiers and forcing others to retreat.
This attack marks the latest in a series of coordinated strikes by the group across Borno State, including previous assaults on Dikwa, Rann, and Gajiram. These attacks have resulted in significant casualties, destruction of property, and the looting of weapons, according to local reports.
The Nigerian military has yet to officially comment on the alleged incident in Marte.
