“We Must Learn to Live Together and Never Become Enemies with Fulani Herdsmen” – Sheikh Gumi
Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has urged Nigerians to coexist peacefully with Fulani herdsmen, describing them as an inseparable part of the nation.
In a video shared on X, Gumi emphasized that the herdsmen “are going nowhere” and cannot be driven away, just as no one can be expelled from the country. He stressed that they should be seen as neighbors, not enemies.
The cleric warned that turning herdsmen into adversaries could have serious consequences for Nigeria. “If by any mistake Nigeria turns them to enemies, it would spell doom for the country,” he said.
Gumi added that external forces could exploit hostilities with herdsmen to harm the nation. “Your real enemy will use your neighbor against you, and nobody knows your secrets more than your neighbor,” he explained.
He concluded by emphasizing the importance of peaceful coexistence: “We must learn to live together and should never become enemies with them.”
