We Have Approved ₦20m for Each Local Government to Renovate Graveyards – Gov Radda
The Katsina State Government has approved the sum of ₦20 million for each Local Government Area to renovate graveyards across the state.
Governor Dikko Radda announced the approval on Thursday in Katsina while receiving royal fathers from the Katsina and Daura Emirates. He said the initiative was both a service to the people and a way of seeking Allah’s blessings for the state.
The governor also unveiled a new welfare package aimed at empowering traditional rulers and religious leaders. According to him, a new law passed by the State House of Assembly provides that all District Heads will now earn salaries not less than Grade Level 16. In addition, 6,652 Ward Heads will receive monthly allowances, while more than 3,000 Imams and their deputies in Friday Mosques are to be supported with stipends. He added that mosque sweepers from Izala and Darika groups across the 34 local government areas will also be placed on allowances.
Radda reiterated his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity, stressing that security remained the top priority of his government. He disclosed that over 1,500 youths had so far been trained to support security operations in the state and were equipped with uniforms, life jackets, and operational tools. He urged traditional and community leaders to intensify awareness campaigns, reminding citizens that lasting peace could only be achieved through collective responsibility.
“Security is a collective responsibility, we must unite to protect our people,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruq-Umar, the District Head of Baure, Alhaji Daha Umar-Farouq, reaffirmed the solidarity of the Daura Emirate with the governor, particularly after his recent car accident in Daura.
The Wazirin Katsina, Senator Ibrahim Ida, representing the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir-Usman, commended Governor Radda for his reforms, noting that they had restored dignity to traditional institutions and strengthened their role in governance and community development. He assured the governor of the continued support of the emirates through prayers and cooperation to promote peace, unity, and prosperity in the state.
