“We Are Not Deterred” – Governor Fubara on Court Reinstatement of Pro-Wike Lawmakers
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has minimized the significance of the recent Court of Appeal decision that reinstated 27 pro-Nyesom Wike lawmakers. The appellate court in Abuja overturned an earlier ruling by the Rivers State High Court, which had ordered the expulsion of the lawmakers, including Martin Amaewhule.
The Court of Appeal ruled that only the Federal High Court has the authority to decide if a House of Assembly member’s seat has become vacant, citing Section 272 (3) of the Constitution.
Despite this legal setback, Governor Fubara remains undeterred. Speaking to journalists after inspecting projects in Khana Local Government Area, he asserted that the worst is over for his administration. Fubara invoked Psalm 23:5 from the Bible, emphasizing resilience and perseverance in the face of challenges.
“I want to assure everyone and the good people of Rivers State that we are not deterred. We have made our promises, and we will continue to provide good governance, no matter how difficult it is,” Fubara stated. “We are moving on to ensure the continued development of our state.”
