“Wannabes Heating Up the Polity” — Sunday Dare Slams El-Rufai, Amaechi Over Criticism of Tinubu
Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, has taken aim at former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, dismissing them as “wannabes” following their recent criticisms of the administration.
Dare stated that President Tinubu remains undeterred by opposition attacks and is focused on governance. His remarks came in response to El-Rufai’s claims that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has strayed from its founding principles. El-Rufai, who remains a member of the APC, argued that the party is unrecognizable and vowed to criticize it even if he were part of the government. Meanwhile, Amaechi, speaking on political transitions, suggested that the current leadership would not relinquish power to younger politicians without resistance.
Reacting on Saturday, Dare dismissed these comments, accusing Tinubu’s critics of attempting to destabilize the government. In a post on X, he noted that while Tinubu was in Tanzania working on solutions to Nigeria’s energy crisis, his detractors were busy “heating up the polity.”
Dare described their gathering as a platform for spreading “ill will” and pushing an opposition agenda. He warned Nigerians to scrutinize such political figures early, distinguishing between “political hecklers and real progressives.” Emphasizing that Tinubu remains focused on governance, Dare asserted that the president is not interested in political battles at the moment, stating that the true test will come in the 2027 elections.
