Voter Register: Reps Ask INEC to Delist Inactive Voters
Nigeria’s House of Representatives have asked the independent national electoral commission, INEC to deregister people who do not participate in two consecutive elections, with claims that they have become Non-existent.
This followed a matter of urgent importance by a member of the House, Leke Abejide on the need for the electoral body to carry out a periodic verification of the register.
The lawmakers want the electoral body to develop a mechanism to clean up it’s system of dead and fictitious voters.
They alleged that thousands of dead and Fictitious names still appeared on the Voter Register in the just concluded election, which may have been used to rig elections.
