Video: Yahaya Bello Faces Justice as EFCC Arraigns Him Over Alleged N80 Billion Fraud
Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello appeared at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja today to face charges of alleged financial misconduct. This marks a pivotal moment as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) seeks to prosecute him for his role in a reported N80 billion fraud case.
The embattled former governor, dressed in a white kaftan and blue cap, arrived at the court under the escort of EFCC officials. The case, presided over by Justice Maryanne Anenih, also implicates two co-defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, who were previously granted administrative bail.
Bello, Oricha, and Hudu face a 16-count charge brought by the EFCC. These charges stem from allegations of misappropriation of public funds during Bello’s tenure as governor. While the co-defendants have been granted bail, today’s proceedings are pivotal for Bello, as his initial summons from the court prompted the current legal showdown.
At the last hearing on November 14, the EFCC sought an adjournment, citing a 30-day window to secure the appearance of the former governor. The commission has now acted within this timeline, bringing the high-profile case back to public focus.
