Victor Osimhen’s Participation in AFCON Semi-Final in Doubt Due to Abdominal Discomfort
Victor Osimhen faces uncertainty ahead of the Super Eagles’ Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final clash against South Africa, as he battles with abdominal discomfort.
Babafemi Raji, the Super Eagles’ media officer, disclosed this development in a statement on Monday. The 25-year-old striker has been left under close observation with a member of the medical team in Abidjan, while the rest of the team has proceeded to Buoke, the host city for the upcoming semi-final match.
The statement emphasized, “If cleared by tomorrow morning, he will join the rest of the squad before 5 pm.”
The Super Eagles’ planned flight from Abidjan to Bouaké, scheduled for today via a 10 pm Air Cote D’Ivoire flight, will proceed without Osimhen. The striker’s exclusion from the trip is attributed to his ongoing abdominal discomfort, with team medics closely monitoring his condition.
The statement did not provide confirmation on whether Osimhen’s injury might rule him out of the crucial clash against Bafana Bafana on Wednesday, with the match scheduled for 6 pm. The Super Eagles’ camp is anxiously awaiting further updates on Osimhen’s fitness, as the team prepares for the pivotal AFCON semi-final showdown.
