US House Passes Bill Banning Transgender Athletes in Male, Female Sports
The United States House of Representatives has passed a bill barring transgender athletes from competing in sports categories that align with their gender identity. The legislation specifically prohibits transgender men from participating in male sports and transgender women from competing in female sports.
House Speaker Mike Johnson announced the decision on Tuesday via a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Today is a great day in America because House Republicans just passed @RepGregSteube’s Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act ensuring men cannot compete in women’s sports,” Johnson stated. He added, “Men are men, women are women, and men cannot become women. It’s just that simple.”
This legislative move precedes the upcoming inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump, who had previously implemented a ban on transgender individuals serving in the U.S. military during his first term. There is growing speculation that Trump may reintroduce the military ban once in office.
