US Election Update: Kamala Harris Takes Over Biden-Harris $96 Million Campaign Account
Kamala Harris has formally taken control of the Biden-Harris campaign’s financial resources. The Biden-Harris campaign amended its filings with the Federal Election Commission, officially renaming its principal committee and declaring Kamala Harris as a presidential candidate.
According to the Campaign Legal Center, Harris can assume control of the Biden-Harris campaign account if she remains on the ticket for the general election. CNN reports that the campaign account had nearly $96 million in cash at the end of June.
This transition follows President Joe Biden’s announcement on Sunday that he is suspending his 2024 reelection campaign. Shortly after Biden’s withdrawal, the campaign committee submitted paperwork to the Federal Election Commission, re-designating the committee as “Harris for President.” A letter filed with the commission confirmed that “Vice President Harris is now a candidate for United States President in the 2024 election.”
