US-Based Nigerian Catholic Priest Dies in His Sleep
Rev. Fr. Andrew Ifele, a Nigerian Catholic priest based in the United States, has died in his sleep.
Fr. Ifele passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026, according to a statement released Tuesday by the Catholic Diocese of Awka.
Until his death, he served as administrator of La Santisima Trinidad in Arroyo Seco under the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, USA.
He had also served since 2011 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Questa and its mission churches, including Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe in Cerro, Sagrado Corazón in Costilla, Santo Niño in Amalia, and St. Edwin’s in Red River.
The Diocese of Awka confirmed his passing in a statement signed by its Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Charles Ndubisi.
The diocese said funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
