Update: Donald Trump Defeats Kamala Harris to Win US Presidential Election
Donald Trump has secured a victory in the 2024 United States presidential election, surpassing the crucial 270 electoral votes needed to win the White House. With Wisconsin now officially in his column, the Republican candidate has accumulated 276 electoral votes.
Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee and current vice president, has 219 electoral votes. Harris is expected to deliver her concession speech shortly, acknowledging Trump’s win.
The former president, who previously served as the 45th president from 2017 to 2021, flipped several key battleground states and managed to turn some traditionally Democratic states red. His victory comes after a tense and closely watched election, with many pundits highlighting Trump’s strong support on issues like immigration, the economy, and border security.
“This was a movement like nobody has ever seen before. We overcame obstacles that nobody thought possible,” Trump said, speaking shortly before the networks officially called the election in his favor.
Trump, who built his campaign on promises to secure the borders and revitalize the U.S. economy, expressed confidence in his mandate. “Every day, I will be fighting for you with every breath in my body,” he declared. “We are going to help our country heal. We have a country that needs help, and it needs help very badly. We’re going to fix our borders, and we’re going to fix everything about our country. We made history for a reason tonight.”
