UNN Bans Social Activities Beyond 6 p.m. After Popular Auto Dealer Stabbed to Death on Campus

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has announced a ban on all social activities on campus beyond 6 p.m. following the tragic killing of a guest during a student event. The directive, issued in a statement signed by Acting Public Relations Officer Mr. Inya Egwu, said the measure was taken in response to the incident of September 12, when businessman Chiebonam Nweze, popularly known as Power-Autos, was stabbed to death.

Nweze had attended a bonfire night organized by the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies before violence reportedly broke out after the gathering was hijacked by miscreants from a neighboring community.

The university stated that, going forward, all social activities must be held strictly during the day and under the supervision of the institution’s security unit. “Social events of any kind will not be permitted on our campuses beyond 6:00 p.m henceforth,” the management stressed.

While describing the incident as regrettable, UNN assured staff, students, and the wider public of its commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment on campus. It also pledged to take all necessary measures to prevent a recurrence of such violence.
