Unknown Gunmen Attack Leaves Two Injured in Asaba
Two occupants of a Toyota Camry vehicle were shot and critically wounded by unknown gunmen along Old Anwai Road in Asaba, the Delta State capital. The attack occurred on Tuesday, just 300 meters away from the Government House, as the vehicle approached the Bridge Radio Station.
The motive behind the assault remains unclear, and the identities of the assailants are yet to be established. Eyewitnesses at the scene saw sympathisers rushing to assist the victims, who were badly injured, to transport them to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
This incident comes on the heels of assurances from the Delta State Police Commissioner, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, who recently pledged to bolster security during the ‘ember’ months. The Commissioner highlighted that significant efforts had been made to curb criminal activities such as kidnapping and armed robbery in the region.
“We are aware of the expected rise in crime during the ember months and have issued an operation order to all area commanders, DPOs, and tactical units across the 25 local government areas to step up visibility and raid criminal hideouts,” CP Abaniwonda said during a recent press briefing.
He further encouraged residents to cooperate with the police and report suspicious activities, stressing the importance of public involvement in maintaining security in Delta State.
The police are yet to release an official statement on the Old Anwai Road attack, but investigations are expected to be underway.
