Unknown Assailants Behead Couple in Abia

Anger and outrage in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, where unknown assailants brutally beheaded a couple, Mr. Jacob Udo and Mrs. Comfort Udo, in their home at Etiti Ulo. The horrifying crime occurred on the night of Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Abia State Police Command, ASP Maureen Chinaka, released a statement on Thursday, titled “Re: The Alleged Murder of a Couple in Bende.” She said, “Yes, we received the report yesterday at Bende Divisional Headquarters. The crime scene has been visited, exhibits recovered, and the bodies deposited at the mortuary. Investigation is ongoing.”

The gruesome killing has sparked outrage and condemnation. The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency, expressed deep sorrow over the murder. In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, Kalu described the act as “horrific and senseless.”

“The brutal murder of Mr. Jacob Udo and his wife is an affront to humanity. No grievance or dispute can justify such violence,” Kalu remarked, calling for swift justice. He urged law enforcement to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice.

Kalu also appealed for calm in the community, stressing that violence will only lead to further division. “While we understand the pain and emotions surrounding this tragedy, we must avoid actions that will escalate tensions. Violence will only breed further division and suffering,” he warned.
