University Governing Council Suspends Vice Chancellor, Appoints Acting Replacement

The Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO), Benue State, has announced the suspension of the institution’s pioneer Vice Chancellor, Professor Innocent Ujah. In his place, the Council has appointed Professor Ediga Bede Agbo as the acting Vice Chancellor.

This development was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by James Onogwu, the university’s Coordinator of Information, Publication, and Public Relations, and shared with journalists on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the decision to suspend Professor Ujah and appoint an acting VC was made during a special meeting of the Governing Council held on October 17, 2024. The meeting was chaired by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, Ohieku Salami.

The statement read, “Professor Ediga Bede Agbo has been appointed as the acting Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo. This decision was reached at a special meeting of the Governing Council, chaired by the Pro-Chancellor.”

It further noted that Professor Ujah’s suspension was based on allegations of gross misconduct and deliberate disregard for the Council’s authority.

When contacted for a response, Professor Ujah declined to comment, stating that the matter was still under review by the committee handling his case.
