JUST IN: Tinubu Appoints Governing Councils, Principal Officers for Federal Universities

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Senator Binta Garba as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairperson of the Governing Council of the newly established Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences in Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State. The announcement was made on Tuesday in a statement by Presidential Spokesman Bayo Onanuga.

Garba, a politician, businesswoman, and administrator, previously represented Adamawa North Senatorial District in the Senate from 2015 to 2019 and served in the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2011. Other members of the university’s Governing Council include Professor Joseph Sanya, Efe Emefienin Emmanuel, Dr. Joyce Ogunyemi, and Alhaji Dahiru Ruma.

In addition to the council appointments, Tinubu named key principal officers for the university. Professor James Aribisala will serve as Vice-Chancellor, Oluwole Dada as Registrar, Adeniyi Ajayi as Bursar, and Professor Isaac Busayo as Librarian. The university is set to admit its first batch of students in September.

The president commended Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele for his efforts in championing the establishment of the university and urged the appointees to bring their leadership expertise to drive academic excellence, innovation, and development at the institution.

In a separate appointment, Tinubu named Professor Muhammed Audu as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State. Audu, an experienced academic and administrator, succeeds Ohieku Salami. A professor of Mathematics at the University of Jos, Audu previously served as Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, where he implemented transformative initiatives that improved both academics and infrastructure.
