Unattended Gas Cooker Sparks Fire, Destroys Parts of 20-Room Building in Ilorin
A fire outbreak in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, on Wednesday afternoon destroyed parts of a 20-room building after an unattended gas cooker ignited flames. The incident occurred around 1:53 pm at No. 90 Koro Compound, Oke-Apomu quarters.
Spokesman for the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Ade Kunle, confirmed that firefighters responded swiftly, arriving to find several rooms already consumed by the blaze. Through their prompt intervention, they managed to save 13 out of the 20 rooms in the storey building, while seven were affected.
Preliminary investigations linked the fire to negligence in handling a gas cooker. The Director of the State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, urged residents to prioritise fire safety to prevent similar disasters.
