UK Police Appeal for Help Identifying Family of Injured Nigerian Student in Leicestershire
Police in Leicestershire are appealing for help to locate the family of Uchechukwu Haniel Kanu, a 21-year-old Nigerian student who was found with severe injuries on Melton Road in Thurmaston on 12 September. Officers discovered him while responding to reports of damaged vehicles and later confirmed he had been living in the Riverside area of Leicester on a student visa.
Authorities say Kanu was assaulted sometime in September and has remained in hospital since then, where he is described as being in a serious but stable condition. Despite weeks of inquiries in the UK and Nigeria, investigators have been unable to trace his relatives.
Detective Con Kevin Sharkey urged anyone who knows Kanu or his family to come forward, noting that police are eager to connect his relatives with his medical team. Information can be submitted by calling 101 or visiting the Leicestershire Police website, quoting crime number 25*539400.
Five men, aged 24, 26, 34, 37, and 53, were arrested in connection with the incident. All have been released pending further investigation.
