UK Council Boss Bayo Dosunmu Resigns Amid Drink-Driving, Drug Possession Charges
Bayo Dosunmu, the Nigerian-born chief executive of Lambeth Council in the UK, has resigned from his position following serious legal charges. His resignation will take effect on July 15, 2024.
Dosunmu’s resignation comes after his arrest on June 23 in Westminster, London, where he was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run incident. He faces multiple charges, including possession of a class A controlled drug, driving under the influence of alcohol, and driving without insurance, according to the BBC.
He is scheduled to appear before the Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 1.
Lambeth Council confirmed his resignation via a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), announcing Fiona Connolly as the acting chief executive. “Bayo Dosunmu has stepped down as Chief Executive of Lambeth Council with effect from Monday 15 July, 2024,” the statement read. “Fiona Connolly is currently Acting Chief Executive and the Council will shortly begin the process to recruit a permanent Chief Executive.”
Dosunmu was appointed as the chief executive of Lambeth Council in April 2022, having previously served as the council’s deputy chief executive and strategic director for resident services. His career includes roles as the executive director at Homes England and assistant chief executive at the Homes and Communities Agency.
