‘UAE Has not Lifted Visa Ban on Nigeria’ Presidency Refutes Earlier Reports

Contrary to recent reports, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has not lifted the visa ban imposed on Nigeria, as confirmed by the Presidency. Earlier claims suggesting the ban’s removal were debunked by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the Nigerian President.

On Tuesday evening, Onanuga took to his official handle to clarify, stating, “UAE has not resumed visa issuance to Nigerians. The document in circulation is not authorized either by the Nigerian government or the UAE.”

The UAE had initially implemented the ban in October 2022, affecting not only Nigeria but also citizens from 19 other African countries. This move prompted the country’s authorities to instruct travel agents and trade partners to reject all visa applications from the affected nations.

Diplomatic tensions between the two nations have persisted due to the visa ban, leading to ongoing discussions about travel restrictions. The recent wave of misinformation has added complexity to an already sensitive situation. SK Blog had initially reported the purported lifting of the visa ban, but subsequent developments highlight the need for careful verification of such claims.
