JUST IN: UAE Ends Two-Year Visa Ban on Nigerian Travelers

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has officially lifted the visa restrictions imposed on Nigerian citizens, marking the end of a two-year-long travel ban.

A joint statement titled ‘Joint Announcement by the Governments of Nigeria and the UAE: Resumption of Visa Services for Nigerians Travelling to the UAE on 4th March, 2024’ disclosed that visa services for Nigerians would resume on March 4, 2024.

The statement emphasized the positive outcome of extensive talks between the governments of Nigeria and the UAE, expressing mutual dedication to fortifying diplomatic ties, promoting cultural exchanges, and fostering economic and social collaboration.

The breakthrough was attributed to discussions between Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, signifying a pivotal stride in bilateral cooperation.

To ensure a streamlined visa application process, the UAE has introduced an enhanced document verification procedure. As of March 4, 2024, all Nigerian applicants are required to obtain a Document Verification Number through the dedicated online platform Document Verification Hub.

UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Saleem Saeed Al-Shamsi, emphasized the importance of this updated process, stating, ‘We are committed to facilitating straightforward and expedited visa applications for Nigerians. The introduction of the Document Verification Number is designed to enhance the integrity of our application process and ensure prompt processing for all applicants.’

After obtaining the Document Verification Number, applicants can proceed with their visa applications through designated travel agents, with the final processing to be completed at the UAE Embassy in Abuja or Lagos. The statement encourages all prospective travelers to adhere to the guidelines and initiate their applications promptly to ensure a smooth transition to the new system.

This announcement reflects the ongoing efforts to strengthen the robust ties between the United Arab Emirates and Nigeria, aiming to contribute to the prosperity and well-being of both nations.
