U.S. Police Arrest Nigerian-American Couple Wendy and Edward Osefo for Alleged Insurance Fraud
U.S. authorities have arrested reality television personality Wendy Osefo and her husband, Edward “Eddie” Osefo, on charges of insurance fraud and making false statements.
The couple, known from The Real Housewives of Potomac, was arrested on October 9, 2025, after an investigation by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office in Maryland. Investigators allege that the Osefos filed a false insurance claim reporting a burglary at their home during an April 2024 trip to Jamaica.
According to court documents, the couple reported that more than $200,000 worth of jewelry, designer clothing, and other luxury items were stolen. Detectives later found evidence that some of the goods listed as stolen had been returned to retail stores for refunds before the alleged burglary. About $20,000 worth of items were traced to completed return transactions, including a Dior shirt.
Investigators also noted that Wendy Osefo was photographed on social media wearing a ring she had claimed was stolen. Security records from the couple’s home showed no sign of forced entry or suspicious activity during the reported time frame. Deputies said there were inconsistencies in the couple’s insurance filings, including duplicate claims submitted to different insurers.
Sheriff James T. DeWees stated in the charging documents that the investigation indicated a deliberate attempt to defraud an insurance company.
Wendy Osefo faces 16 charges, including seven felonies, while Edward Osefo faces 18 charges, nine of them felonies. Both were released on $50,000 bond pending trial. Their legal representatives issued a short statement requesting privacy and confirming their intention to contest the allegations.
Legal analysts have described the evidence—particularly the returns processed before the reported theft—as a serious indicator of potential fraud.
The couple is expected to appear in court later this year.
